I bought my truck because small truck+V8=fun. However now I find that while I still really enjoy that power, the thing that really grabs me day to day is the way this thing will just hang onto a gear and accelerate. 1100rpm at 70kph? wiggle right toe, no downshift, 8090100.

The feeling of riding that wave of torque is amazing.

So, Oppo, what part of driving your vehicle was totally unconsidered at purchase but is now one of your favorite things about it?

The noise of straight pipes. On longer trips, I wear ear plugs. On shorter trips, I kind of like it now because it’s so obnoxious and ridiculous.

It’s a really short pipe on an MR2 as well because of the mid-engine layout, isn’t it? I can see that being fun :) Minimum noise muffling ftw

I think I'm going to put an electric exhaust cutout in. Just need to find out where the second O2 sensor is so I don't start throwing codes when I open it.

Electric heaters in the vents, to heat up the interior before the coolant is hot.

The handling on my E46. I purchased it because every other used car in my area was boring, and I love the way it looks. I never imagined I would be barreling down back roads on the daily drive home.

Heated cloth seats, thought they’d be useless, but they’re amazing in -30 C winters.

Passat TDI. In many ways it’s as beige as you can get but there are some features that stand out as cool.

I wish our Jetta had this, but it doesn’t have the package that included that apparently.

Heated washer fluid in the Jetta. It’s wonderful on very cold mornings when there’s frost or thin ice on the windshield.

I think it’s a TDI thing. I didn’t even realize it had them at first.

Oh yeah, very. It normally wouldn’t be since it would normally curve under the rear trunk where the cat and muffler are, but the previous owner just chopped that off and welded on a baffleless AutoZone fart can, so the run from port to tip is maybe three feet.

I think they would need them... we've had 2 TDI's in the family. They didn't produce heat very fast.

The automatic spoiler.

Didn’t think about it for more then a minute before driving one, now I love seeing it go up in the rearview. Maybe thats because every car the has one is a shitload more money.

Yep. The seats, mirrors, washer fluid.

There’s even a heating element in the base of the windshield where the wipers rest. It helps melt ice that accumulates on them.

Automatic climate control

Never had it, thought it was pointless, but it comes standard on WRXs and holy crap it’s pretty awesome especially from a laziness perspective. I never touch the HVAC knobs!

I don't see it as pointless, but I find it hard to belive me life would be any easier with it. I never fine-tune my knobs. I set them full warm, full cold or dead center.

Then again, I'd probaly to a quick 180 if I had it. Which is kind of the point of this post.

I’ll give you an example of why its great.

You get in your car on a hot day, it is of course blazing. When you start it up initially the blower doesn’t even start, it waits until the compressor is working, it only goes to full blast once it knows that it will be blasting cold air. When it’s ready it goes to full blast then it slowly tempers the blower speed as it reaches your target temperature and it just keeps it there. You never touch the controls.

It’s not that big of a deal, it’s just really nice, unexpectedly nice.

The automatic climate control. Paid no mind to it when I bought my Mazda3. If I wanted the hatchback, the base model was the i Touring trim so I had no choice in the matter.

But boy do I love me some automatic climate control. It even has dual-zone support, which for a vehicle as small as the Mazda3 I find to be a bit absurd, but eh.

Pretty sure this is how I would feel. It doesn't bother me that I don't have it. I only use full hot, full cold or dead center on the temp scale. If I had it once, I doubt I would go back.

My Focus has a washer fluid level warning - when it gets low, it shows an alert on the IP when you start the car up. Why more cars don’t have this, I don’t know. It beats the hell out of finding our you’re out of fluid when you’re half way home in an ice storm.

I wish I had this. On the subject of washer fluid—one of the most underappreciated features is a washer bottle that will take the full jug. When I fill mine, there's just enough left in the jug that I can't throw it away. A half inch at the bottom of the bottle would fix it.

My boss cracked his windshield on his old car because of the heated wiper fluid during one particularly cold winter. I’ve been wary of them ever since.

I like the idea of the heated nesting zones for the wipers though.

I don’t like it. I drive with the roof off much of the time, so the climate control’s measurement of the temperature is usually wrong. Sometimes it will turn off the heat because it thinks your feet are warm enough, but I need that heat for my hands! In that instance it feels like it’s being too smart for its own good.

Really, I just want “hot” and that’s it.
